So where does this take you, really?
I received and email from a New York Gallery who found my website and really liked my art. WHAT?!
So they asked if I’d like to submit my portfolio, artist statement and take part in their ‘Artist Promotion Services’.
Initially I thought it was spam, then after a bit of research and a follow up email from the gallery I realised this was a ridgy didge proposal, I was feeling inspired and pretty excited that I had been found and they liked what they saw…
So what would this mean for me as an Artist?
Was it just a business proposal, where I buy their services?
Would I benefit as an emerging Artist?
Initially, I had crazy thoughts of moving to NYC for 18 months. Living and painting in this amazing city. Then, Exhibiting my Art and rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. A little like a sex in the city kind of lifestyle (but with a husband and two kids)!
After more research, asking questions, talking with some friends and art mentors I came to the conclusion that I need to focus on my art, paint lots, exhibit locally and really develop my style.
I don’t need to pay a Gallery to promote me and then give them a commission for the art I sell in their gallery. So it was a great thrill to begin with and I am honoured they contacted me and liked my art.
But for now, I need to get busy painting and doing what I love.
